The American Humane Sanctuary

A Unique Rescue Retreat for Animals, Veterans & Animal Advocates

Welcome to the American Humane Sanctuary – a rescue retreat for animals, veterans and animal advocates that seeks to make a difference in the way we treat our best friends . . . in their worst times.

The American Humane Sanctuary is a unique new home for those in greatest need – where people and animals alike can find help, healing and rejuvenation in beautiful, warm and welcoming surroundings.

A home where abandoned animals can finally find their forever homes.

Our vision for this one-of-a-kind retreat includes

Rescue Center

A new generation of animal first responders will be trained on site to help victims of abuse, abandonment, natural disasters, puppy mills and cruelty cases.

American Veterans’ Training Center

Veterans struggling with PTS & TBI as a result of their service to our country will be paired, and trained along side, highly skilled service dogs at no cost to the vet.

Immersive Experience with Animals

Animal advocates, donors and others will take part in an immersive, unique interactive experience with animals learning basic skills and rescue techniques while benefiting from the bond to be found through human-animal interaction.

Healing Garden and Center for Humane Agriculture

Visitors will unwind in the peaceful surroundings of our healing garden and benefit from meals incorporating produce and herbs grown on site.

“Animal shelters make me sad in the way they are built. They are institutional buildings that must be scary for the companion animals who have been rescued. I have seen so many shelters over the past ten years in my role as CEO of American Humane, have provided funding for their renovations, and yet none have made me feel as if we were in a loving home. I understand why they are built that way, but I think it’s time for a change.”

- Dr. Robin Ganzert, President & CEO of American Humane
